Miami Beach Rep. Files Bill For Inspector General At Citizen's Prop.

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — A state representative from Miami Beach has filed a bill aimed at making spending by some employees at Citizens Property Insurance Corp. more responsible.

Rep. David Richardson filed the bill Tuesday which adds an inspector general to the list of 31 other state agencies where statute requires that level of oversight.

A review by Florida's chief inspector general determined that some employees at Citizens racked up excessive travel expenses over an eight-month period. The review found more than 50 instances where senior managers were reimbursed for meals in their own hometowns and that former Citizens President Tom Grady took a limousine from his house to the airport.

Two legislative committees responsible for insurance legislation having hearings scheduled Wednesday on dealing with problems at the state's largest property insurer.
