Car Slams Into Daycare

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A daycare in a strip mall in Miami-Dade County was converted into a drive-thru Tuesday morning when a car slammed into the front of the building.

The accident happened near the corner of 3015 SW 107th Avenue at the Ready 4 Preschool Day Care center.

"There were no cops yet, I just saw people running out of the school in panic mode like kids," said parent Stephanie Perez who was about to drop off her child. "Two minutes or so earlier, who knows what would have happened."

CBS4's Summer Knowles reported the owner of the daycare, Xiomara Martinez, was the driver of the car that hit the business. The car went all the way into the daycare center during the accident.

According to Martinez's daughter, someone kept honking their horn and Martinez got nervous and hit the accelerator.

"She was in shock," said witness Sergio Garcia. "She was more concerned about the kids than what had happened to her."

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said no one was injured in the accident that knocked out at least two of the front windows of the building.

There were a total of nine kids inside the daycare at the time of the accident.
