Several Marathon Residents Homeless After Apartment Fire

Marathon (CBSMiami) – Several Marathon residents were left homeless after a fire ripped through their apartment building.

Monroe County firefighters and sheriff's deputies were called to the apartment building, at 108th Street and 1st Avenue Gulfside, around 8 p.m. Saturday.

The one story building had four apartments. Three residents were home and were able to safely get out during the fire. The fourth resident was not home at the time.

Several adjacent buildings were evacuated just in case the fire spread.

The American Red Cross was notified and responded to the scene, assisting the residents with finding temporary housing and anything else they needed assistance with.

County and State Fire Marshals will be investigating the cause of the fire.
