Car Slams Into Coral Springs Duplex

CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – The owner of a Coral Springs duplex will need a little remodeling after a driver slammed into the side of it.

The accident happened in the 2300 block of NW 123rd Avenue.

One person who witnessed the crash said the car didn't appear to be speeding and the driver was able to walk away from it with only minor injuries.

The family said a 6-year old and a 15-year old were watching TV in the bedroom room that was hit. They weren't hurt when the flat screen television went crashing to the ground.

A second room received minor damage. The 13-year old inside it at the time of the crash was unhurt.

The owner of the duplex, who lives in the unit which was not damaged, was home at the time of the crash and was not hurt.

Police said the 27-year old driver was cited for failure to use due care. A records check found that his license had been suspended for failing to pay a ticket. Police do not believe alcohol was involved.

A structural engineer told the family that the bedroom which sustained the most damage is unsafe but the rest of the unit is okay. The said they may spend the night in a hotel anyway.
