Report: Heat Considering Signing Greg Oden
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Heat need a veteran center to man the middle of the floor and help rebound the ball. Enter former number one overall pick Greg Oden.
According to ESPN.com, Oden has decided to resume his career next season. ESPN.com reported that the Miami Heat “are at the front of the line in pursuing Oden, two sources said, and have been keeping tabs as he recovers while also taking classes at Ohio State.”
However, ESPN reported the Heat aren’t the only team weighing signing Oden as early as this year to keep him on the roster as he prepares to come back next season.
Oden is a legit seven-footer, but has struggled with knee injuries since being taken first overall by the Portland Trailblazers in the 2007 NBA Draft. Oden, when healthy, could provide the Heat with the long-needed big man in the middle.
For his career, Oden has played in a total of 82 games over two years and hasn’t played since 2009. When he was on the floor, he averaged 22.1 minutes per game and scored 9.4 points and pulled down 7.3 rebounds per game.
