Woman Dies After Being Shot On Liberty City Street

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami police are looking for clues after a mother was gunned down on a Miami street and later died at the hospital.

The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of NW 53rd Street in Liberty City.

The 38-year odl woman, who was shot multiple times, was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where she died.

Close friends of the victim told CBS4's Peter D'Oench off camera that the woman was a mother of three children and had no enemies..

Witnesses recalled hearing the gunfire.

"I was in my house and at first we heard three shots go off so at first I thought who is shooting the house and as I was opening the door, I heard more shots go off," said Tedarius Washington. "When I looked out the door, I saw the girl across the street and she was holding onto the gate and she fell."

Neighbor Lasandra Walker was also startled by the shots.

"It went like 'boom, boom, boom'. I heard it going on about 8 times," explained Walker.

It's not known if the gunman was targeting the woman or someone else.

"We're tired of that in our neighborhood. We're older people, we're settled. We're tired of that. We want peace and quiet so that's the way it should be. There are still a lot of elderly people that are still around. It shouldn't be all. We don't know what happened, why they did that but it's a shame that they did do it. We'd like to see the people who did this to go to jail for that."

Police have not issued a description of the shooter or what may have led up to it.

If you know anything about the shooting, please call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
