MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Actor Steven Bauer, best known for his role as Manny Ribera in the 1983 film Scarface, bonded out of jail after he was arrested on an old outstanding warrant.
According to the Miami Dade Corrections website, the actor was booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Center on Tuesday at 4:00 a.m. He was booked under his birth name Steven Ernest Echevarria with remarks listed as DWLS which means Driving While License Suspended.
According to the arrest affidavit, Echevarria was stopped in the intersection of SW 107th Avenue and West Flagler Street at 11:50 p.m. Dec. 17. Echevarria was given a warning.
But when the Sweetwater police officer ran his driver’s license number, he found an open 12 year old warrant for driving with a suspended license issued by a Miami-Dade County judge. Echevarria was arrested and transported to the Miami-Dade County jail.
Bond was set at $500. During his bond hearing, the judge closed out the case and withheld judication.
Bauer told the judge he no longer lives in South Florida. Bauer was in South Florida visiting has parents and was driving his father’s car when he was pulled over.
Wilmar Machado, 23, who was in the car with Bauer also ended up being arrested.
When asked for ID, Machado reportedly reached into her purse to get it and that’s when an officer spotted what appeared to be a baggie of marijuana and a glass pipe inside the bag, according to her arrest report.
Machado was asked to step out the vehicle and her purse was searched. According to the arrest report, the bag did have marijuana in it and the pipe had marijuana residue on it.
Machado was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bauer is a Cuban-American actor, known not only for his role in Scarface but also for his role on the bilingual PBS show ¿Qué Pasa, USA? He played the teenage son of a Cuban exile family in Miami, from 1977 to 1979.
Bauer has also been married three times, his first marriage was to actress Melanie Griffith in the early 80s.
