Carlos Aguilar, Jaclyn Torreabla's Mom Speak At 5K Run/Walk

SWEETWATER (CBSMiami) – The City of Sweetwater and Carlos Aguilar joined forces with Vilma Castro, the mother of Jaclyn Torreabla, who was brutally murdered when she was 18 by a man she thought was her friend in 2009.
Aguilar and Sweetwater Mayor Manny Maroño spoke to crowds ahead of the 3rd Annual Run For Respect 5k run/walk, held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the G Holmes Braddock High School field.
A Zumba warm-up readied participants for the run/walk, which helps to raise money for the Jaclyn Elisse Torrealba Scholarship, an award given to FIU students. Run For Respect also raises money for Love Is Respect, an organization which brings awareness to youth about the signs and dangers of unhealthy relationships.
Carlos Aguilar is the father of Christian Aguilar, the University of Florida teen whose murderer is suspected to be someone he respected: a close friend.
Torrealba's murderer was sentenced to life in prison without parole earlier this year.
