Suspect In Custody After Opa Locka Police Involved Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A person on a dirt bike who Opa Police officers shot at during a chase has been taken into custody.

It started at around 4 p.m. at 119th Street and 27th Avenue. Investigators the chase began when officers saw the man on bike had a gun.  When they went to approach him, he took off.

The chase went from NW 113 Avenue and NW 26th Street to NW 25th Street and NW 87th Avenue where more officers joined in.

Witnesses said they heard several shots but it was not clear if the male on the dirt bike fired at the pursuing officers. Police said no one was hit by the gunfire.

The chaset came to an end near NW 39th Street and NW 12th Avenue where police said the man surrendered and was taken into custody.

Witnesses said a green unmarked police car rear ended the dirt bike which caused it to fail.

Police have not released the subject's name or the extent of his injuries.
