Fmr. Miami Beach Official Accused In Pay Off Scam
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – A former procurement director for the City of Miami Beach was arrested Monday on public corruption charges.
Gus Lopez is accused of leaking sensitive information to construction companies looking to work with the city. In exchange he would get payoffs from a consultant, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
Lopez and his wife were arrested at the Miami condo. The consultant, identified as Pierre Landrin, was also taken into custody. They all face a number of charges including racketeering.
According to prosecutors, Lopez and Landrin had a deal to split money from construction companies in exchange for giving them information on their competitors. At least at least a dozen paid Landrin, who in turn paid Lopez, according to an arrest warrant.
