Sports Agenda for Tuesday (10/2/12)

Big Story:
Good news Dolphins fans…your quarterback situation could always be worse…Tony Romo or Mark Sanchez could be your starter. The Hurricanes will have another new defensive starting lineup this week, but lose offensive linemen. The Marlins season has been over, but they're almost done playing games, but tonight could be one to watch for sentimental reasons.

Quote of the Day:
"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives." – James Madison. (That's for any public leader who decries education or makes it harder to receive an education at the highest level)

Monday Night Football:
The Cowboys are back, blah, blah, blah, America's team, blah, blah, blah.
That's all I heard in the offseason and you know what…they're not.
They're a poorly coached team on offense and defense and have a horribly overmatched quarterback, Tony Romo, for that spotlight.
He's been in the league now 10 years and he's still playing worse than many rookies.
How bad was Romo last night? Well, according to ESPN's QBR, he scored a 14.2….on a scale of 0-100.
Course when you are 31-43 for 307 yards, 1 touchdown and 5 interceptions, it's gonna be ugly.
For the regular season, Romo has thrown five touchdown passes to eight interceptions and has a quarterback rating of 78.5.
Just for comparison, Ryan Tannehill has thrown two touchdowns to 6 interceptions and has a quarterback rating of 66.4.
Fellow rookie RGIII has thrown for 1,070 yards, four touchdowns and 1 interception for a quarterback rating of 103.2.
So yeah, Tony Romo…elite quarterback….right.
And on a side note…I'm really sick of the Cowboys calling themselves America's team.
Really? So America's team is a perennial bunch of whiners who can't get it done to win at the highest level.
I'll take the Patriots over the Cowboys as America's team….of the Giants…or several others.
But, I will say this.
Every time the Cowboys lose in the billion-dollar Jerryworld stadium….I can't help but chuckle a little.

Miami Hurricanes:
UM is getting ready to head to Chicago for a matchup with ninth-ranked Notre Dame this weekend.
Not quite Catholics versus Convicts, but it should be a fun game.
UM's offense is humming right now and lord knows they need it. UM's Stephen Morris has thrown for more than 1,000 yards in the last two games!
But…
The Canes have one of the worst defenses in the country and the worst in recent memory.
Miami's defense is giving up just less than 495 yards of total offense per game, which is 116th out of 124 teams, according to cfbstats.com.
The Canes defense is giving up 33.4 points per game, which ranks it 100th in the nation. Miami surrenders on average, 225.6 yards on the ground and 269 yards through the air per game.
That's just awful….but makes me wonder something…..
If you matched up Miami's defense against West Virginia's defense….would there be a single punt in the game?
Tough call there…but if the over/under was anything less than 100 points…I'd take the over.
UM will also be without offensive tackles Ben Jones and Jermaine Johnson.
But the defense will get Denzel Perryman back at linebacker, so that should help as he was second on the team in tackles before his ankle injury.

Miami Marlins: (vs. New York Mets, 7:10 p.m.)
While no one really cares at this point if the Marlins win or lose…heck no one has cared since mid-July, but nevertheless.
Tonight, Adam Greenberg will get his "One at Bat" he's dreamed of for the last seven years.
He was hit in the head during his only big league at-bat before even taking a swing in 2005 in a game against the Marlins.
So, it's only fitting that he will suit up tonight as a Marlin to get his one at bat.
But just to prove that no good deed goes unpunished….Greenberg's at-bat will likely come against R.A. Dickey.
Dickey throws a mean knuckleball, which in my opinion, is probably the hardest pitch to hit in all of baseball.
Maybe Dickey throws him an easy one to let him have his dream fulfilled, a la Brett Favre's gimme sack to Michael Strahan several years ago.
No matter what, Greenberg has succeeded in getting his one at bat and has made a remarkable comeback from that devastating injury.
So cheers to Greenberg and to the Marlins for trying to help him out.
Tune in tonight and see what happens.
