FHP Clears Driver In Deadly Crash During Obama Motorcade

WEST PALM BEACH (CBSMiami) – A preliminary report has found no wrongdoing by the driver of a car that hit and killed a Florida police officer who was helping escort President Barack Obama's motorcade.

Florida Highway Patrol released the details in a crash report just before midnight Thursday. The accident took the life of Officer Bruce St. Laurent of the Jupiter Police Department.

According to FHP, St. Laurent moved in front of Susan Holloway with the lights on his motorcycle flashing. Holloway, according to FHP, wasn't speeding, distracted, or suspected of using drugs or alcohol. FHP said Holloway slammed on the breaks but couldn't avoid the crash.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is conducting a separate homicide investigation and said charges against Holloway are still possible.
