MIAMI (CBS4) – Fashion is coming back to South Florida in a big away. Thursday evening, Fashion’s Night Out kicked off with a series of runway shows, after-hours shopping and plenty of cocktail receptions.
The shopping initiative driven by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour returned for its fourth year.
Fashion’s Night Out started in 2009 in New York as a way to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence and boost the industry’s economy during the recession. Now the event extends to 250 U.S. cities and 18 countries.
“Last year there were 4500 events in the U.S. surrounding FNO this year there is supposed to be well over 5000,” said Deborah Slack VP and General Manager of Saks Fifth Avenue.
“It’s fashion’s night! It ‘s all over the country and Miami is a great place for fashion,” said fashionista Marcy Lefton.
Several cities across Florida will participate in this international shopping party, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville. More than 65 retailers in the Miami area are taking advantage of the event.
