Recall: 2013 Ford Escapes May Catch Fire

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Ford and Honda have issued recalls on some of their models.

Ford's recall is more serious, because some of its 2013 Escape SUVs, over concerns the engines can catch fire.

About 11,500 cars are subject to the recall, but only about 4,800 of them are actually on the road right now.

2013 Ford Escapes affected by the recall fit this description:

  • 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engines
  • Built from early April through July 11th

Ford says the SUVs' fuel lines can crack and leak; just the slightest spark from a cigarette butt could cause a fire.

To date, three engine fires have been reported, but none have resulted in injuries.

For more information, Ford encourages 2013 Escape owners to call their local Ford dealers.

Honda is recalling 200,000 of its 2012 CR-V and 2013 Acura ILX because the vehicles' doors may not close. No injuries have been reported by owners, who will be notified in August.
