Suspect In Custody After Injuring Officer Then Crashing

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) -- It was a rough morning on the roads for a Miami-Dade police officer who was involved in a crash while he attempted to make a traffic stop in Southwest Miami-Dade.

According to police, the undercover officer had pulled over a vehicle at SW 79th Court and 72nd Street, whose driver had a bench warrant out for his arrest.

When the officer stepped out of his car, the driver backed-up and tried to hit him, before he stepped on the gas and sped away northbound on SW 87th Avenue.

The suspect, however, ended up in a wreck with a Honda CRV and another undercover officer in a white van who was blocking the intersection of Southwest 56th Street and 87th Avenue.

The CRV and the suspect both collided into a wall.

The driver was taken into custody and the police officer was taken to Baptist Hospital with some minor injuries.
