Miami Gardens Home Riddled With Bullets

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – A five-year old girl was injured by flying glass when someone riddled a Miami Gardens home with bullets early Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the 2300 block of NW 207th Street.

"Seventy shots perhaps into this home, it could be multiple caliber weapons," said Miami Gardens Detective Carlton Coleman.

Investigators believe there were at least three gunmen.

A woman who wished to be identified only as Gina lives in the home with her children. She had relatives visiting from Atlanta. She said she and her children were sleeping when the gunfire erupted.

"I was asleep and all I heard was 'Get down'," said Gina. "The first thing I thought of was my baby and I left her sleeping on the couch watching TV."

Gina's daughter Kayla was hit by glass as the windows shattered.

"To see blood coming from my baby's face was the most hurting feeling in the world, I thought she was gone," said Gina.

Kayla was taken to Memorial West by family members where she was treated for her cuts.

"She's fine, thank God she's fine," said Gina, "Me and my kids and my granddaughter, we're fine."

Gina said she's lived in the home for two years and has no idea why anyone would want to hurt her family.

"I have never in my life, never experienced that before, I don't wish this on nobody," said Gina.

Investigators have not said why they think the house was targeted.

Gina said she will never stay in the house again. On Wednesday she began packing up her family's belongings, she plans to move to Georgia.

Police do have some persons of interest and there could be arrests by the end of the day.
