'The Price Is Right' For Save The Chimps

FORT PIERCE (CBSMiami) – The world's largest chimpanzee safe haven received a special gift from a TV game show legend on Tuesday.

Bob Barker doesn't monkey around when it comes to giving back.

Most known for his 35 year tenure as 'The Price is Right' host, Barker has donated of $250,000 in unrestricted funds to Save the Chimps located in Fort Pierce.

"Chimpanzees that have been tortured both physically and mentally for years in hideous research experiments at long last find the first peace, contentment and love they have ever known at Save the Chimps," said Barker.

This is not the first time that Barker has given a helping hand to Save the Chimps. In 1998, just months after the organization was founded, he donated $10,000.

"I invite you to join me in helping Save the Chimps to continue their splendid work," said Barker.

Save the Chimps was certainly appreciative for Barker's hefty offering.

"We are incredibly grateful to Bob Barker for this remarkable gift, which will have a major impact on our organization and the chimps we care for," said Executive Director Philip Flynn III.

Over the years, Barker's kindness and charity has benefited more than just Save the Chimps. He is a major animal welfare activist and is linked to numerous animal rights organizations.

"Mr. Barker is one of the great champions for animals and their rights," said Flynn.

The 150 acre Save the Chimps is dedicated to providing permanent sanctuary for the lifelong care of chimpanzees rescued from research labs, entertainment and pet trade, since 1997.
