FHP Kicks Off "Click It Or Ticket" Campaign
TALLHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Just in time for the long Memorial Day weekend, the Florida Highway Patrol has joined law enforcement nationwide in a "Click it or Ticket" campaign.
Beginning Monday through June 3rd, troopers will crack down on drivers and passengers who are not buckled up.
"While Florida reached a record high last year for safety belt use, we still see many drivers and passengers who fail to buckle up. All too often it ends in tragedy," said FHP Director, Col. David Brierton.
In 2010, statistics show seat belts saved an estimated 12,546 lives nationwide, according to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Florida's safety belt law requires all front seat passengers to buckle up. Occupants under the age of 18 must wear their safety belts regardless of where they sit in a vehicle. Troopers who stop motorists for not wearing seat-belts will not issue warnings, the driver will get a ticket.
