FHP Looking For Driver In Fatal Hit & Run Crash

MIAMI (CBS4) - The Florida Highway Patrol is trying to find the motorist that fatally struck a pedestrian on the Julia Tuttle Causeway early Saturday morning and then fled the scene.

Sgt. Thomas Pikul said a woman, who has not been identified, was standing on the side of westbound Interstate 195 just after 3:30 a.m. when she was struck. The impact left her face down in the lanes, with her body facing south.

"So when I was coming up I got out of the right hand lane cause I saw the two cars pulling over," said witness Jessica Hale.  "Maybe there was something going on there, so I got into the middle lane and it wasn't until I got close that I saw the body."

The victim has not been named pending notification of relatives. Sgt. Pikul said the woman was not carrying identification.

It was raining at the time of the accident, but it is not known if weather conditions were a contributing factor.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
