Fire Destroys Downtown Miami Building

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Heavy flames and thick white smoke from a burning building was seen by dozens of drivers on I-395/MacArthur Causeway on Monday afternoon.

Chopper4 over the building, located at 14th Street and NW 1st Avenue, found the flames had entirely engulfed the wood framed structure. Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said the building, which was not occupied, may have been a business at one time.

Carroll pointed out that the electricity to the building had been turned off for some time and witnesses said they saw several people running from the area of the building when the fire broke out.
