Massive Trayvon Martin Rally Set For Sunday In Bayfront Park

MIAMI (CBSMiami) --Tens of thousands of people are expected to take part in a hometown rally for the parents of Trayvon Martin in Miami this weekend.

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla), who chaired a racial profiling hearing in Washington, D.C. attended by Martin's parents, is organizing the event for Sunday at Bayfront Park, located at 301 North Biscayne Boulevard in Downtown Miami.

Gates will open at 1:00. The event begins at 4:00.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend including the congresswoman, local politicians, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and singer Chaka Khan, among others.

Martin, 17, of Miami Gardens, was gunned down February 26th while walking through a gated Sanford community by self-appointed Neighborhood Watch captain George Zimmerman who claimed he shot the teen in self-defense. Citing the "Stand Your Ground" law, police did not charge Zimmerman in the shooting which sparked outrage and cries for justice across the nation.
