Ft. Lauderdale Hotel Partially Evacuated Due To Laundry Room Fire

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A section of a Ft. Lauderdale hotel was evacuated Sunday morning after a fire broke out in a laundry room.

Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue Chief Robert Bacic said just after 10 a.m. they received a report of a fire at the Westin Hotel & Resort, located at 400 Corporate Drive.

The smoky fire broke out on the top floor of a three story section of the hotel which was attached to the main building. Using fire extinguishers, hotel employees battled the flames. Arriving firefighters then took over and fully extinguished the fire as they evacuated the third floor. The fire was contained to the laundry room area; the main building was not affected by the fire or smoke.

Hotel guests were then allowed to return to the hotel. One hotel employee who helped keep the fire in check before firefighters arrived was treated on scene for exposure to the smoke and released. No other injuries were reported.

Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
