South FloriDUH Facebook Posting Lands Accused Thief In Jail

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Be careful about what you post on Facebook, it could land you jail.

Steven Mulhall, 21, of Coral Springs, learned that fact the hard way when he allegedly stole a nameplate from a judge’s door and posted a picture of himself holding it on Facebook.

According to the Probable Cause Affidavit, Mulhall pried the nameplate off the door of Broward Circuit Judge Michael Orlando on Feb. 23rd.

An anonymous tip lead investigators to the Facebook page of Mulhall’s girlfriend where his picture was posted holding the $40 nameplate.

Mulhall was arrested Thursday and charged with petty theft but since he violated the terms of his parole on previous petty theft convictions, its considered a felony.

He was booked into Broward County’s Main Jail but has since bonded out.

“Mulhall was arrested Thursday and charged with petty theft but since he violated the terms of his parole on previous petty theft convictions, its considered a felony.”

Apostrophe-s, news journalist. “Its” is a possessive. The word you’re looking for is “it’s.”

    • John Doe

Actually, “it’s” = “it is” and “its” is the possessive. Google it.

      • Susan

truebob, actually “you’re” = you + are, the word you’re looking for is “your”. lol

      • truebob

Actually, that’s what the original comment said, you’re comment in redundant.

      • I'm smarter than you

Truebob, I believe you meant to say “is”, not “in”. As in, “your comment IS redundant”. A comment can’t be IN redundant. My work here is done.

    New Darwin award nominee…

    • Random

Only if the judge ops to castrate or does not have kids and he had an accident that was not mentioned. Thats the rules of the Darwin award game.

    • Cortanis

Not quite yet…. he still hasn’t taken himself out of the gene pool or drowned in it yet. Otherwise, agreed. >.>

  • truebob

His girlfriend is as dim as he is.

  • mccgeno

Hey Mulhall, I saw your kid on the news last night, that’s a real genius you got there, lol.

  • tim0

If all they have is the photo, and no witness or survalliance, all the kid has to do is say he found the nameplate. Its not against the law to pick up something and take your picture with it.

    • Random

Possession of stolen property is a crime. So, yes It is.

    • Doodlebug2222

They never said there was no survalliance, and probably was fingerprints on the door where it was pryed. Then you have to wonder what the caption was, and think about the intention of the post. Why would a person that simply found this nameplate – pose with it? Generally, a person that committed the crime > would > and would also pose with the prize.

  • ACE

Stupid ass. They shouldn’t have let him out, Because you and I know he won’t show up for his court date. Another DUH Moment this time on the Court System.
