Reggie Wayne Envisions Peyton Manning Joining The Miami Dolphins

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – One of Peyton Manning's favorite all-time receivers envisioned Manning joining the Dolphins. And Reggie Wayne hoped he could rejoin his former teammate, adding that would be a "story book" ending to their careers.

Wayne spent Thursday at his alma mater, returning to the University of Miami for "Pro Day," a day in which college players including many from UM who are NFL prospects showed off their skills in front of NFL scouts and coaches like head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Defensive Coordinator Butch Davis, who used to coach the Hurricanes.

As the players ran sprints and drills, Wayne spent the afternoon observing the practice and placing phone calls and texting people.

As he left the field, he told CBS4 News, "Well, this day is not about me. It's about them."

While Wayne had said he didn't want to speak about Manning on Thursday, he did tell the "Michael Irvin Show" on WQAM radio that he sees a number of reasons for Manning to join the Dolphins.

"I think it would be a good fit," he said. "He already has a crib here in South Florida. It's less moving to do with the family. I think the Dolphins fans would love it that he would be here."

Wayne spoke highly of the 35-year-old Manning, who turns 36 on March 24th. He said of the NFL's only four-time Most Valuable Player, "I feel like they would be getting a gem. He is one of the best ever. It would be great to see him in a Dolphins uniform. I could see it happening. It would be one heck of a ball team, competing with Tom Brady in the AFC east."

Wayne, who is a free agent, was asked about the chance he'd join Manning with the Dolphins.

"I can see it happening," he said. "I am not opposed to it. He is a great worker. I consider myself a great worker. And together, great things can happen. I am available. My cell phone is working."

Wayne was also asked about playing with Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall.

"He's one of the best," Wayne said. "I can see us playing side to side."

The big question for many is when Peyton Manning will announce his decision. He can join any team at any time. Free Agency for the NFL begins on Tuesday. Some expect Manning to announce his decision by then.

It's a decision that could mean a special reunion, with Reggie Wayne "going long" once again for Peyton Manning.

"It would be a story book ending," Wayne said. "It could not get any better."
