Zoo Miami Doesn't Monkey Around On Valentine's Day

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – Love is in the air across South Florida and whether you're a hopeless romantic or a swinging single, everybody loves a box of chocolates for Valentine's Day, except in this case, it was a box of fruits and vegetables along with some peanut butter.

The special Valentine's Day treat was delivered to Zoo Miami's family of chimpanzees in Southwest Miami-Dade on Tuesday.

Carefully and lovingly prepared by the staff at the Zoo's Amphitheater, the individual boxes were painted with hearts and stuffed with some of the animal's favorite treats such as fruits and vegetables along with some peanut butter.

The treats are part of an enrichment program at the zoo designed to stimulate the animal's natural behavior to forage and search for food.

The chimps truly enjoyed their special treats especially a chimp named "Bubbles" who smiled for the camera as she opened her Valentine's Day present.

Remember, "Life is like a box of chocolates… you never know what you're gonna get." However, if it's Valentine's Day at Zoo Miami, it's usually pretty good!
