House Gives Preliminary Approval To Budget
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami) – The Florida House of Representatives has given tentative approval to the state's more than $65 billion budget.
The new budget will cut Medicaid reimbursement rates, force thousands of state workers into unemployment, hike college tuition, and boost school funding.
But the boost in education funding is still less than the cuts made in the 2012 budget.
House members did rebuke Governor Rick Scott on one issue. The House will keep a Jefferson County prison open, instead of closing it as Governor Scott wanted.
The House is expected to take a final vote on the 2012-2013 budget on Thursday.
