DORAL (CBSMiami) – The field of candidates for Miami-Dade County Mayor just got a little shorter.

Monday, Juan Carlos Bermudez, current Mayor of the City of Doral, announced he will not be running for the County Mayor’s position as he had originally planned.

Bermudez, who has been Mayor of Doral since its incorporation more than 8-years ago, said in a statement, “After more than ten years of public service and with a growing family, the time has come to make sure that I can spend quality time with my children and wife. Although my campaign for County Mayor has come to an end, my campaign to reform County government will continue both through the remainder of my term as Mayor of Doral and as a private citizen subsequent to the end of my term as Mayor of Doral this November.”

Bermudez, the only mayor Doral has ever known, is ineligible for reelection because of term limits.
