MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – If you hope Powerball will make you rich, you’ll have to pony up more to take a chance. Starting Sunday, the price of a Powerball ticket will double, but the wizards behind the game claim it will be worth it because the odds of winning will go down.

Tickets for the multistate game will double to $2 January 15 at 6 AM. Tickets for Saturday night’s draw will be the last you can buy for a buck.

The Powerball is also looking to decrease the numbers to choose from which will in turn raise the odds of winning the jackpot from 1 in 192 million to 1 in 175 million. Powerball officials also said that the starting jackpot will rise to $40 million and the amount for matching all five numbers but not the Powerball will jump from $200,000 to $1 million.

Still, you have a much better chance of being struck by lightning (1 in 300,000) than you do hitting the Powerball jackpot.

Various other payments will also increase.
