Severed Leg Washes Ashore Behind Home

ST. PETERSBURG (CBSMiami/AP) – Members of the St. Petersburg Police Department's marine units are keeping a sharp eye out after a severed human leg washed ashore on a yard from nearby Tampa Bay.

Marine officers spent Wednesday morning searching the surrounding waters for any additional evidence.

The leg was found Tuesday. St. Petersburg Police say the limb was discovered by a Canadian couple staying at the home while on vacation.

The Pinellas County Medical Examiner took the leg for investigation and is trying to determine the race, sex, age and approximate time of death of the person. Police say it's a right leg with the foot missing at the ankle. It also appears to belong to a heavy set person and is clean shaven.
