Commission Names New Broward Mayor, Vice-Mayor
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Broward County Commissioners have elected a new Mayor and Vice Mayor, a job the voters don't get to choose.
Commissioner John Rodstrom, a 19-year veteran of the commission and vice-mayor from 2010 to 2011, was elected Mayor by the commission, He'll serve a one-year term.
"After all of these years serving with my colleagues I am honored by their continued faith in me. As for my newer colleagues on the Commission, I thank you for your vote of confidence," Rodstrom said in a statement.
Commissioner Kristin Jacobs was elected Vice-Mayor, the second time she has held that job. She was first elected Vice-Mayor in 2004, and served as Mayor in 2005, when Broward was hard-hit by Hurricane Wilma.
Both jobs are largely ceremonial positions, as the county employs a County Manager who is in day to day charge of county departments.
