COCONUT CREEK (CBSMiami) – Due to the massive turnout of job seekers at their one day job fair, the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek has decided to extend it through the end of the week.

On Wednesday, dozens of people lined up before dawn in the casino’s parking lot to be the first to interview for a position.  By noon, the about a thousand people were waiting their turn.

The casino is looking to fill 800 new positions created by a $150 million expansion which doubled its size.

“We have a wide variety of jobs, gaming positions, a lot of food and beverage, dealers, waiters, bartenders, all of those and some supervisory positions too,” said Seminole Casino Coconut Creek’s David Carrol.

Specific positions offered include restaurant and lounge staff including chefs, cooks, servers, bartenders, cocktail servers, and restaurant managers. Gaming positions offered include dealers, hosts, player’s club representatives, cashiers, customer service attendants and slot machine technicians. Other jobs include operations, security, maintenance and housekeeping.

Insurance benefits will be offered with every position.

“Bob” from Sunrise, who used to work in the healthcare field but has been unemployed for the last year in a half, was one of the lucky ones to land a job.

“Well I guess I’m hired.  It’s great, I can’t wait.  This is the best day in the last year and half, other than the day my granddaughter was born, this is the best day,” said Bob.

The casino’s job fair is the largest hiring of new employees by the Seminole Tribe and Seminole Gaming since the grand opening of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in May, 2004, and comes as an economic shot in the arm for Broward County, where the official unemployment rate is presently 9.5 percent.

The casino hopes to fill all the open positions by the first of the year for their projected Feb.2012 opening.

The job fair is being held in the West Lot Pavilion at the casino, located at 5550 NW 40th Street, in Coconut Creek.
