Miami Jackson High Teacher Arrested For Alleged Sex With Student

MIAMI (CBS4) - A Miami-Dade school teacher has been arrested for what police say was an extremely inappropriate relationship with one of her students.

Waleska Velasquez, 29, has been charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Police say Velasquez and the then 16 year old male student had sex three times from August of 2009 until 2010. Velazquez is accused of also sending the now 17 year old victim handwritten letters, photos of herself in lingerie and nude photos to his cell phone. She also allegedly gave the student lavish gifts and cash.

The Department of Children and Family began to investigate Velasquez after receiving a tip that about the illicit affair.

Velazquez has reportedly confessed the relationship to police. She is being held on $7500 bond.

Miami-Dade Schools spokesperson John Schuster released this statement Thursday afternoon:

"School district staff is regularly reminded that personal relationships with students are unethical and forbidden by School Board rule, and may be illegal, as in this instance.  The district will work toward a swift termination of this employee."

Miami Police Department's Special Victims Unit is investigating other possible victims of Velasquez.
