FSU Lands Nation's Top QB Recruit

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Florida State Seminoles have been putting together another stellar recruiting class for 2012 and Wednesday stole a recruit out from under Alabama head coach Nick Saban's nose.

FSU received a verbal, non-binding commitment from the nation's top quarterback recruit Jameis Winston. The QB made his decision on ESPNU and chose FSU over both Alabama and LSU.

Winston, from Hueytown, Alabama, stands 6'4" and weighs 200 pounds. He's a dual-threat quarterback that will remind FSU fans of current starting quarterback E.J. Manuel. Winston was also the top rated recruit in Alabama, according to Rivals.com.

Last season as a junior at Hueytown High School, Winston had 3,000 yards of total offense and had 29 touchdowns.

Winston is also a top baseball recruit who could be picked in the early rounds of next June's Major League Baseball draft. If he is selected, he'll have to decide about whether to sign with a team or head to college to play football.

Winston told Rivals.com that baseball "is one of his loves, but football is my passion." That is music to the ears of every Seminole fan and coach.
