MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMIami.com) – Drivers looking to make a quick commute home on the Palmetto were out of luck Friday evening.

Shortly before 5 p.m., a tractor-trailer truck and two other cars were involved in a crash on the Palmetto near NW 57th Avenue.

The tractor-trailer flipped over, as did one of the other cars that appeared on Chopper 4 to be either a minivan or SUV.

The accident left several people injured and police shutdown both east and westbound lanes of the Palmetto to allow air rescue to land at the scene.

Three people were airlifted from the scene, but there conditions are not known.

Westbound traffic stayed blocked, but eastbound traffic was re-opened after the air rescue chopper left the scene around 5:20 p.m.

What else is new? People drive on the Palmetto like they are in a Nascar race.
