Search For Shooters Who Seriously Injured Miami Teen

MIAMI (CBS4) - A 15-year-old boy is fighting for his life at Jackson Memorial Hospital after police said three men shot him in Liberty City Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say the teen was on his way home from the corner store when he was shot in the 1400 block of NW 60th Street. Witnesses said the teen managed to run across the street and up the stairs of the building that he lived despite his injuries.

Friends gathered at the hospital hoping the young man would pull through surgery. They said Shabazz Newman is a good kid and didn't deserve this.

"I hope the boys whoever did it, they get punished for that, go to jail," said 15-year-old Tameisha Moblui, Newman's friend.

Back at the scene of the crime, crews pressure washed the spot where Newman collapsed just feet from his front door.

"I just ran, I had to grab him," said Roberta West, a neighbor. "I just felt like it was my child."

West and many others called for an end to the seemingly incessant violence that plagues their community. Yet others seemed unfazed by it.

"This is the hood," said a mother who would only say her name was Kiki. "This go on everyday. This ain't surprising"
