Ethanol Leak Contained At Port Everglades
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue firefighters were called to Port Everglades after a pipeline carrying ethanol sprung a leak.
The leak occurred in a tank farm area of the port in the 1500 block of SE 28th Street around. About 225 gallons of ethanol spilled into a containment dike. BSO Fire Rescue spokeswoman Mike Jachles said firefighters sprayed the dike with foam to reduce the chance of ignition.
They were able to determine the leak was coming from a valve which malfunctioned and not a break in the pipeline.
The sheriff's office said the valve was repaired and a private clean up contractor cleaned up the spilled fuel and foam.
