TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – The outrage over the not guilty verdict in the Casey Anthony trial has reached the Florida Legislature.

Wednesday, Representative Bill Hager, R-Boca Raton, introduced what is being called, “Caylee’s Law,” according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The law would make it a felony for a parent or legal guardian to fail to timely report a missing child in cases where the parent knew or should have known that the child was possibly in danger, the Sentinel reported.

Rep. Hager said that the law will “ensure that parents are held responsible for their actions.” He continued, “It will also assure that we put justice on the side of those among us who are most vulnerable. And finally, it will put an end to the kind of irresponsible and outrageous behavior we observed with Caylee’s mother.”

I feel the same exact way this should have done a very long time ago but look what it took another innocent child killed by a parent or protector.

you’re an idiot….it should be a felony…five year minimum for each day a child is missing without it being reported. We may have had a guilty verdict had a law such as this was in place….Fame? It’s called another idea to protect children after a terrible crime…how most laws have been formed!

I would think that law woud be commen sence and already in the books. If a child is with the mother and the child ends up missng or dead ,the Mother should be 100% responsible.

It wouldn’t have made a difference in Caylee’s case. Sadly, she was dead – not endangered – the whole time her mother failed to report her missing. There are laws in place about reporting the death, but the prosecutors didn’t include them in the list of charges.

I believe the Federal government should charge Casey Anthony with violating Caylee’s civil rights by not reporting her missing for 31 days. Ok, so she wasn’t charged with murder, but surely she’s guilty of aggravated child abuse by not reporting her missing. Were the jury not in the courtroom? Did they not here that???

I think that all the thought about was the Fourth of July and they wanted to go home nothing more nothing less.

You could tell by the Judge he didn’t want to be there either and wanted to go home. I think he should be investigated at as well.

no he was upset by the immature remarks in the court room between the prosecutors and the smiling and laughing and objections every 10 minutes to the defenses closing arguments.

This child had to be suffering because just by the dark circles under her eyes shows me the lack of sleep and probably not eating properly my heart is so competely broken I really can’t understand how anybody could harm a beautiful child.

I haven’t clue where the jury heads were but wanting to go home for The Fourth of July and you could see the judge felt the same way he wanted to hury hury through this trial just by the expression on his face especially when theo Prosecution was up and it makes me ill to think that but it was so true.

I just hope that this law is passed and passed very very quickly like TODAY would be good.

But this law wouldn’t really work for Caylee because she was already dead right after Casey left her house in a rage when she got furious at her mother.
