BSO Seek Pair Of Fishy Burglars

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) – Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are asking for help from the public to find a couple of fishy burglars who stole the navigation system from a boat in Pompano Beach.

Investigators suspect the pair could be responsible for at least 10 similar thefts along the Santa Barbara waterway since March.

Images from a surveillance camera on Joseph Barbera's boat clearly show how the two suspects carefully unscrewed the monitors from the console at around 2:15 a.m. May 26. The theft took place in the 800 block of S. Federal Highway.

"They sure knew what they were doing," said Barbera, as he pointed to the empty counsel on his boat where the monitors were removed.

"Two monitors were here," he said. "The one gentleman started unscrewing this monitor first, pulled it out, pulled all these wires out and cut them off, while the other guy was working on this one."

"These guys are like sharks," said BSO Spokeswoman Dani Moschella. "They're opportunistic thieves; they're wearing gloves; they brought a screw driver, and they spend quite a bit of time removing this expensive equipment from the boat."

One thing the crooks did not realize is that one of their faces is caught on camera.

"Obviously, he didn't know he was being filmed by a surveillance camera; he should have smiled," said Moschella.

Now that detectives have his picture, they want his name.

Anyone with information about the suspects or the burglaries is asked to contact BSO Pompano Beach Detective Carol Singstock at (954) 786-4201 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
