Police Break Up Cock Fight In SW Miami Home

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE- (CBSMiami) -Police broke up a cock fight over the weekend after authorities received anonymous calls about the illegal activity in the area.

Two men were arrested Sunday just before 3 p.m. at a home on the 12200 block of SW 51st St.

Ramon Soria, 79, and Eduardo Oruna, 48, face one count each of fighting or baiting animals.

Police say when they arrived on the property they found "several roosters in distress," according to the report.

When police turned the corner of the house, they found several people "screaming at a cage [where] roosters were fighting."

Police entered the side of the home and saw what appeared men betting on the fights, according to the report.

But the police presence soon interrupted the alleged activity with some men running off with their roosters, the report states.

Police searched the area and found multiple bottles of medication, antibiotics and spurs for the rooster.

On Monday, Soria and Oruna faced a bond court judge. Soria was released to pre-trial services, however, Oruna who has a previous criminal record was held on a $5,000 bond.
