MIAMI (CBS4) – A Hollywood production is calling the streets of South Florida home for several months while the shooting of the star-studded film “Rock of Ages” gets underway.

For the next four months, director Adam Shankman will transform the Tony Award winning Broadway show into a feature film, starring Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin and Julianne Hough.

Warner Bros will be producing the film, thanks to the City of Miami’s Community Redevelopment Agency, which will help re-create California’s iconic Sunset Strip on 14th Street at North Miami Avenue.

“This is going to be where people are going to want to film when they want to see blue skies and real blue water,” said commissioner Marc Sarnoff.

According to city officials this is only the start. Three more movies are scheduled to be filmed in South Florida after “Rock of Ages”.

CRA has proposed building a $10 million film production studio to put Miami on the movie making map.

For Shankman, Miami was top choice.

“You were always my number one choice because the topography is right,” said Shankman. ” You have the right kind of palm trees.”

City officials say this massive movie production is a big boast to our local economy.
