Miami Children's, Holtz Children's Make U.S. News "Best Of" List
MIAMI (CBS4) - Miami Children's Hospital and Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center have made the list of U.S. News & World Report's Best Children's Hospitals 2011-2012 which ranked the nation's top 50 children's hospitals in 10 specialties.
Miami Children's was the only hospital in Florida to have programs ranked in all 10 specialty categories. They ranked in the top 20 for their heart/heart surgery program (14th) and their neurology/and neurosurgery program (14th).

Holtz Children's Hospital achieved ranking in seven out of the ten specialties. In addition, U.S. News also ranked the University of Miami Health System's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in ophthalmology and the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center's ear, nose and throat program as part of their 2010-2011 "Best Hospitals" rankings. Both programs support Holtz in providing child health services.

Now in its fifth year, "Best Children's Hospitals" looks at clinical and operational data from a lengthy survey which asks hundreds of questions about survival rates, nurse staffing, subspecialist availability, and many more pieces of critical information difficult or impossible for those in charge of a child's care to find on their own. The data from the survey is combined with recommendations from pediatric specialists on the hospitals they consider best for children with challenging problems.
