WEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) – Miami-Dade police are investigating a murder/attempted suicide in a Westchester neighborhood.

Police spokesman Detective Roy Rutland said they were called to an apartment building at 7429 SW 23rd Street around 1:30 p.m. concerning an attempted suicide.  When police arrived they found a woman who said that her daughter was bleeding inside and that there were children with her.

“This was an active scenario so they felt they couldn’t wait for some response team to arrive to assist, they felt they had to go and breach the door immediately just in case there was somebody dying in the residence,” said Rutland.

Inside the apartment, police say a man stabbed his wife, Yuleyve Prieto, 27,  to death before stabbing himself.

The injured man was taken out of the apartment by stretcher to a nearby field where an air rescue helicopter took him to the Ryder Trauma Unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Police have not released the man’s name or the nature of his injuries.
