Son Gives Mother's Day Gift Of Life To Mom

MIAMI (CBS4) - Sunday was a very special day for one South Florida mother who is about to receive a life saving gift from one of her children.

On Monday 52-year old Antoinette Lacy of Pompano Beach will receive a new kidney at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami; the donor is her 34-year old son Trent.

About a year ago, Lacy's kidneys began failing which led to her having a seizure. Since then she has undergone dialysis three days a week for about three hours a day.

"Yesterday was my last dialysis treatment, and it was nice," said Lacy.

In January, Lacy considered getting a transplant to have a better quality of life. Doctors determined that she would be good candidate and began the process of finding a compatible match.

Her son Trent turned out to be a perfect match.

"He said 'Momma, I'm a match' and I was so happy, I thought the roof was going to come off this house," said Lacy.

"I want to see her live a better life, so I don't look at it as being a hero. I look at it as helping my mom, said Trent.

"Aww, that's so sweet," said Lacy.

Trent admits he's a little nervous about going under the knife. He doesn't like the idea of surgery, or missing six weeks of gym workouts, but it something he says he feels he has to do.

"That's how we were raised. That's how we always thought. If you're able to help someone else out, don't sit back and watch a person struggle when they don't have to," said Trent.

Lacy's other son Dwayne says he's thankful for his brother's giving heart.

"It's a Mother's Day I'll never forget," said Dwayne.

Lacy said the first thing they'll do after both she and Trent have recovered sufficiently is take a big family vacation.
