MIAMI (CBS4) – National hospital chain HCA is bringing another South Florida hospital into its corporate fold.

On Monday they announced the purchase of Mercy Hospital in Coconut Grove which will now be known as Mercy Hospital – A Campus of Plantation General Hospital.

HCA said the 473 bed hospital will continue to serve as a Catholic acute care hospital “in accordance with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services,” according to a written release.

“The addition of Mercy strengthens our presence in South Florida, enhancing our ability to meet this area’s healthcare needs,” said Michael G. Joseph, President of HCA’s East Florida Division in the statement. “The hospital has a long tradition of providing quality patient care, and we welcome Mercy to the HCA East Florida family.”

HCA operates more than a dozen hospitals in its East Florida division including Plantation General, Aventura Hospital & Med Center, Kendall Regional Medical Center, Northwest Medical Center in Margate and University Hospital & Med Center in Tamarac.
