"Candy Man" Accused Of Molesting Neighborhood Boy

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) - A neighborhood "candy man" is accused of sexually abusing a pre-teen boy in Pompano Beach.

Wadenby Beauvais, 31, was arrested Tuesday and charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim under 16 for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old boy.

Beauvais appeared in court Wednesday where judge John Hurley set his bond at $250,000. Hurley told Beauvais that if he does get out he is not allowed to sell any candy or treats in the neighborhood.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Beauvais befriended the 12-year-old boy and his family in mid-2009. At first, the boy told investigators, Beauvais would hug and touch him inappropriately. He said this progressed to sexual abuse which happened in his home, Beauvais' home and the van where he sold candy to the children that live in his apartment complex.

Detectives said it's possible there are other victims in the neighborhood.

To report possible sexual abuse by Beauvais, contact BSO Detective Julie Bower at (954) 321-4240 or Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
