Preps For The Miami-Dade Fair & Expo Underway

WEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) -- The West Miami-Dade skyline is beginning to take on a familiar appearance as the rides, tents and attractions begin to go up for the annual Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition.

Preparations are in full swing as the fair prepares to open on Thursday, March 17th, which is perfect timing for South Florida students who are still out of school for Spring Break.

The Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition is ranked the largest in the state of Florida and will be celebrating its 60th year when it kicks off its 18-day run on Thursday.

Each year the fair attracts nearly 800,000 visitors, making it one of the largest and most successful county fairs in the entire country.

The midway features nearly 100 thrilling rides, 170 food booths, 50 games and 50,000 student and adult exhibits and competitions.

Save the dieting for later because the food vendors are bringing back all the fair favorites including elephant ears, roasted corn, candy apples, and more.

General admission is $10 for adults and children, free for children five years of age and younger but admission is $5 on Opening Day.

It opens at noon opening day March 17th, March 18th and weekends. It opens at 3:00 p.m. on all other weekdays.

The Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition is located at the Fair Expo Center, Coral Way (SW 24th St) at 112th Ave.

Parking is free.
