Norwegian Cruise Lines To Donate $5 Million To Camillus House
MIAMI (CBS4) - Miami's Camillus House plans to name its new complex being built near Overtown after a very generous donor.
On Thursday Norwegian Cruise Lines plans to announce it will give Miami's 50 year old homeless shelter $5 million, making it the largest corporate donation ever received by Camillus House.
Camillus House's current center in downtown Miami houses about 268 people; many however are forced to sleep on mats in an outdoor courtyard.
The new $84 million Norwegian Cruise Line Campus of Camillus House, which is being constructed in two phases, will feature seven buildings surrounding two open courtyards. In addition to 340-beds, the complex will have a variety of employment, social service and clinical treatment programs including an expansion of emergency housing and residential treatment for women. The new campus also will include a kennel for pets.
The first phase of the construction began in mid-2010 and is expected to be completed in 2012.
