N4N: Woman Swindled By Contractor Needs Help Rebuilding Her Home

CUTLER BAY (CBS4) - We first met Dotty Hudson over a year ago in court, when the contractor that swindled her out of more than $140,000 met the judge.

"Not having anywhere to lay your head, and you own a home, that's the twist to it, you have a home - but you're homeless" Dotty shared with CBS4's Nicole Maristany.

After first airing Dotty's story a year ago, a local contractors Venetian Builders told Neighbors 4 Neighbors they were on board to help Dotty rebuild her home.

"We can take apart what's been done so that we can rebuild it the right way" explained Christopher Noe, a contractor with Venetian.

Neighbors 4 Neighbors applied for a grant The Home Depot Foundation that would cover the cost of materials and now that the money is in place, work can begin but the project is still short of some helping hands.

"We're looking for a plumbing company, air-conditioning company and electrician" said Noe.

Just a few key pieces to complete the puzzle that will finally bring Dotty home to the house she deserves.

"Wow, pinch me is it really gonna happen now, you know? 'Cause I've been waiting all this time" explained Dotty.

It's something those volunteering on the project are excited to finally do.

"Without home department and Neighbors 4 Neighbors along with all of the charitable organizations and my subcontractors - none of it would be possible at all" said Noe.

To help the volunteers rebuild Dotty's home, call Neighbors 4 Neighbors at 305-597-4404.
