Global temperatures have taken a dramatic drop over the past few months. I have attached a graph showing average global temperatures the past few years. You can see the El Nino spike in 2009 into early 2010. The very strong La Nina is contributing to the sudden fall this winter. In addition, the Arctic Oscillation was very negative for most of this winter and that signal is what really overwhelmed the pattern in the Northern Hemisphere winter.
