Tampa Mom Accused Of Killing Kids Denied Bond

TAMPA (CBS4) - Tissue in hand with tears streaming down her face, the Tampa woman accused of killing both of her teenage children late last week has made her first court appearance.

During a hearing Monday morning, 50-year old Julie Schenecker was ordered to be held with bail by Circuit Judge Walter Heinrich. Her court-appointed attorney did not make a statement.

Investigators said Schenecker shot her 13-year old son Beau twice in the head in the family car on Thursday because he was talking back as she drove him to soccer practice. She then reportedly drove home and shot her 16-year old daughter Calyx in the face as the girl sat at her computer doing homework. Investigators believe neither of the teens "saw it coming," according to police spokeswoman Laura McElroy. Both were killed with a .38-caliber pistol which Schenecker had purchased five days earlier, according to her arrest affidavit.

Officers found Schenecker covered in blood Friday morning. Schenecker was taken to Tampa General shortly after her arrest Friday to be treated for an ongoing medical condition. Late Sunday morning she was released by doctors and Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies took her to jail. Police have not said what type of treatment she received at the hospital.

Her husband, Parker Schenecker, is an Army officer currently assigned to duty in the Middle East.

The family has live in Tampa since 2008 when they purchased a $448,000 home in a quiet, upscale suburban neighborhood.
